Untrammeled! Celebrating 50 Years of American Wilderness
About this Series
Untrammeled—Adjective \ ǝn'tramǝld \ Not hindered or restricted, as used in the Wilderness Act’s poetic description of wilderness.
A wilderness, in contrast with those areas where man and his own works dominate the landscape, is hereby recognized as an area where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain. (The Wilderness Act, Section 2(c))
The Untrammeled! series seeks to engage the public's interest in continued wilderness stewardship. Through real-people stories and practical information about visiting our stunning wilderness preserves across the U.S., listeners will be inspired to investigate and explore on their own, leading ultimately to a public that can more directly relate to, understand, and value wilderness lands, and will recognize the importance of preserving them for generations to come.
Through the dynamic voices of backcountry adventurers, subject-matter experts, and ordinary people who are passionate about visiting and caring for these places, listeners will be transported to a different wilderness in each episode.
Untrammeled! episodes run approximately 15-30 minutes each and are freely available on the Wilderness50 web site.
