Wilderness Peaks with LNT's PEAK Program
The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics primary youth education tool, PEAK (Promoting Environmental Awareness in Kids), teaches elementary age youth about minimizing their impacts when recreating outside. Using fun, interactive activities to convey traditional Leave No Trace skills and ethical practices, PEAK provides an engaging resource for anybody working with youth.
One of Wilderness50's goals is to connect with today's youth to find the thread that ties their lives to wild places so they can more directly relate to, understand, and value, wilderness. An effective strategy to accomplishing this goal is to integrate wilderness messaging into existing, successful youth education programs, like PEAK. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, and working in concert with federal land management agencies and other organizations, the Center aims to put PEAK Packs in over 200 elementary and middle schools across the United States in 2014. This special edition of the Peak program will include additional information on Wilderness and the 50th anniversary.
